.SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Saturday Night) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Thu Sep 11 2025
The weak shortwave, humidity, and instability that set off isolated showers and storms Thursday afternoon and evening was sinking southward and will be replaced by drier air with a surface high pressure system from the north. The main controlling wx feature this weekend and beyond will be a strong upper level ridge axis over the center of the nation that will gradually move east.
Friday will begin with mainly clear skies and areas of fog, especially south of I-40 and in areas where rain fell yesterday. The daytime will bring plenty of sunshine and very warm temperatures reaching the mid 80s to lower 90s. Humidity will be noticeably lower than Thursday, and humidity levels will stay comfortable for the foreseeable future.
The dry air will allow nights to cool off nicely. Friday night`s lows will be in the 50s to lower 60s. Full sunshine will heat things up a little more for Saturday as the upper level ridge axis moves closer.

.LONG TERM... (Sunday through next Friday) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Thu Sep 11 2025
Hot days and seasonable nights will be the rule next week as the big upper level ridge axis moves east and sets up from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast. Highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s will be common with lows in the 60s. Toward the end of next week the upper level ridge will start to flatten and that will bring slight cooling, but still above normal, especially during the daytimes. Extended outlooks from CPC show warmer than normal temps and low rainfall likely to continue through the end of the month.
