.KEY MESSAGES...
- Temperatures will continue to remain above normal through
  Saturday, with highs in the 80s expected each day. Slightly
  below normal temperatures are expected Sunday through Tuesday
  behind a cold front.
- A slight chance for showers and thunderstorms later tonight
  into Wednesday morning across portions of southwest Nebraska
  and eastern areas.
- Dry conditions Thursday through Friday night. Precipitation
  chances increase Saturday into Sunday following a frontal
  passage.

A deep closed upper low was located off the coast of Washington
and Oregon this afternoon, while an upper ridge was located
over the MS Valley. Surface low pressure extended along the
leeside of the Rockies. A surface pressure gradient extended
north to south from the Dakotas through Nebraska and Kansas,
with southerly winds gusting up to 30 mph at times. Temperatures
ranged from the upper 70s to lower 80s.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...

Tonight, an increase in PWATS and instability, with MUCAPEs
ranging as high as 1000 J/KG as a weak upper trough moves in.
Some of the CAMs as well as the NAM, GFS and ECMWF indicate some
light QPFs possible from portions of southwest Nebraska and the
eastern half of north central Nebraska. Have introduced a
slight chance for showers and thunderstorms after 09Z.
Wednesday, a slight chance for showers and a few thunderstorms
during the morning across the eastern half of the forecast area.
Light winds across the west and central, with a breezy south
wind in the east. Highs to reach 80 to 85 degrees. Clear skies
Wednesday night with lows in the 50s.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...

Thursday into Friday, an upper trough will deepen across
Washington, Oregon and California, while upper ridging builds
across the Central and Eastern U.S. This will bring much above
normal high temperatures across western Nebraska from 15 to 20
degrees above normal. Highs expected to reach 85 to 90.
Southerly winds each day, becoming breezy by Friday afternoon.
By Saturday, the upper trough will advance across the Great
Basin, with a lead shortwave trough moving across the area
Saturday night into Sunday with chance to likely POPs of showers
and thunderstorms. A strong cold front is expected to move
through Saturday night, bringing much cooler highs on Sunday
from the upper 50s to mid 60s. Continued cool in the 60s Monday
and Tuesday.

VFR conditions will prevail through most of the forecast period.
There will however be a brief period of LLWS tonight, generally
from midnight to early Wednesday morning affecting both KLBF and
KVTN terminals with LLWS out of the south around 40 kts. SFC
wind will be breezy through the evening and overnight for
locations across the northern Sandhills with south to southeast
winds around 15 to 20 kts and gust of nearing 30 kts early this
evening. Winds will remain breezy on Wednesday, switching to the
southwest around 10 to 15 kts gust up to 20 kts. Elsewhere
winds will be out of the of the south to southeast around 5 to
10 kts.
