.DISCUSSION... Issued at 232 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025
Through Monday: Dry weather with a gradual warming trend is expected through the period. Early morning satellite imagery/RAP analysis showed the circulation around a closed low over northern Alabama and the Tennessee valley. This closed low will open up as it lifts out to the northeast through Sunday and our region will become under the influence of shortwave ridging aloft from the west. Early morning surface analysis had a rather weak 1013mb high centered just west of our CWA that will be replaced by a stronger >1020mb high to our northwest by Sunday morning. This ridging surface and aloft will bring in a drier airmass over our region this weekend but moisture will increase from the east starting Sunday night and continuing through Monday. The 00Z JAN sounding had a PWAT of an inch and quarter but the 06Z JAN sounding had a PWAT of one inch. PWATs are expected to be below one inch until Monday morning. This drier airmass over our CWA will lend to strong radiational cooling again tonight allowing morning lows to bottom out in the 50s across the northern half of the CWA Sunday morning. Afternoon highs will top out close to normal today and then a couple degrees warmer Sunday. Temperatures will start off and top out several degrees warmer Monday thanks to the strengthening ridges surface and aloft along with the increase in moisture. /22/
Mid to late next week: By the middle of next week, it appears increasingly likely that a tropical low somewhere off the southeastern coast in the Atlantic will begin to interact with the aforementioned upper low. The track of this system remains uncertain, and while it is not expected to result in hazardous impacts in our immediate area, we may see increasing chances for showers toward the end of next week as one or more lobes of deeper moisture shift over the area. Meanwhile, with the increasing moisture and easterly flow influence, temperatures are expected to return closer to normal. /DL/
