Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Quad Cities IA IL 1217 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- An extended period of dry conditions and above- normal temperatures continues into early October.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/... Issued at 144 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Early this morning, fog and low clouds were forming northeast of the area. This fog could begin to overspread our far NE, especially Stephenson County. Have added some patchy fog across this area for this potential. Some areas of dense fog have already been observed in south central Wisconsin. Some CAMs bring the dense fog into portions of Stephenson County. Will need to keep an eye on this through the next few hours.

Mid-level ridging remains across the area today. Quiet weather is expected today with a near repeat of yesterday. Temperatures during the day will warm quickly peaking in the upper 80s. 90s cannot be ruled out. While a weak front will move through the area today, it starts to wash out as it moves into our area, leading to no real impacts.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 144 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Ridging remains in place through the period. Models usually tend to break down the ridge faster than expected. Even the ensembles hold on to ridging through the period. I have pretty high confidence that we will have quiet weather through at least the end of this week. More of the same can be expected with a large diurnal swing of temperatures.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 1215 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Frontal passage after 06z/28 across eastern Iowa and northern Illinois will shift winds around to the north and northeast by 12z/28. Outside of a few high level clouds and winds generally under 10 knots, VFR conditions will be seen.

.CLIMATE... Issued at 233 AM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025

The latest 8-14 day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center shows very high probabilities (70%) of above normal temperatures for the Oct 2nd to Oct 8th timeframe. Normal highs for this period are in the upper 60s/lower 70s and normal lows are in the mid to upper 40s. While above normal temperatures are likely, the humidity levels will be tolerable.
