1896 - A hurricane formed on September 22 and lasted until September 30. It formed directly over the Lesser Antilles and hit Cuba, Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. Its maximum sustained winds were at 130 mph. The heaviest rainfall deposited in association with the storm was 19.96 inches at Glennville, Georgia. This hurricane was responsible for an estimated 130 deaths and $1.5 million in damage.

About Fairdealing, Missouri

Fairdealing is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in northeastern Ripley County and western Butler County in southeastern Missouri, United States. As of the 2020 census, the community had a population of 543. It is located along U.S. Route 160, approximately 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Poplar Bluff.

A post office has been in operation at Fairdealing since 1883. Several traditions attempt to explain the name.
