.FORECAST UPDATE... Issued at 707 PM EDT Sun Sep 28 2025

Only very minor changes were made to the forecast to better match current observations. Otherwise, forecast is in great shape. Calm conditions are expected overnight with high pressure over the area. Kept the cooler than guidance temps overnight given the radiational cooling setup, so will see lows from the mid 50s to near 60. Low lying areas may see cooler pockets and possibly patchy fog at times, but widespread fog is not expected at this time.

.DISCUSSION (Today through Saturday night)... Issued at 306 PM EDT Sun Sep 28 2025

Synoptically, the polar jet to our north is currently dominated by large-scale ridging while a weaker more amplified subtropical jet remains to our south. Strong ridging within the polar jet has allowed temperatures to climb to well-above average values, with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s this weekend. Continued above- average warmth is expected as we head into the new week. A slight cool down is possible as northeasterly surface winds develop tomorrow, but even so temps will still be above normal. The diurnal curve should be fairly steep throughout the week with conditions favoring strong solar insolation and ideal radiative cooling at night.

Short-wave troughs within the subtropical jet should largely pass to our south, which will help keep moisture from lifting northward. Strong high pressure at the surface, with the high center over the northeastern US, will remain the dominant surface feature. Given a lack of moisture and a largely subsident atmosphere, a very dry stretch of weather looks to continue through the week.

One of the short-wave troughs may provide us with some mid to high- level cloud cover Wednesday into Thursday, but that`s about it. This week may be about as quiet as a weather forecast can be. Additionally, our nightly patchy fog chances look to diminish as ground moisture from recent rains continues to evaporate. Any nightly fog should be very patchy in nature, shallow, and confined to near rivers and in open fields prone to evapotranspiration.

Normal highs/lows in the Indy metro area this week are 73/52.
