.DISCUSSION... Issued at 228 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

A weak front will move through the region this morning, bringing an increase in clouds. This cloud cover will act like a blanket, keeping our overnight temperatures from dropping as much as they did last night. While this system will be dry for most, a few isolated showers are possible along the Canadian border, though the air is so dry that much of it may not even reach the ground. As the front passes, expect breezy northwest winds to develop for Saturday with gusts up to 25 mph, which could be a bit stronger right along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The big story then becomes a very stable and pleasant weather pattern setting up for the entire upcoming week, as a large area of high pressure builds in. This will lead to an extended period of dry weather with plenty of sunshine and temperatures warming to above-normal levels, a pattern that looks to hold steady as we head into the beginning of October.

There are some hints of a pattern change into next weekend, but this kind of ridging typical holds fast and models are probably overdoing its exit.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 547 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Mostly VFR except some low stratus fog in NW WI in place ahead of a fast moving cold front this morning. This cold front will exit to the east today. Behind the front, winds quickly shift northwesterly and remain gusty through the day before backing off this evening and backing to the southwest.

.MARINE /FOR NEAR SHORE WATERS OF WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR/... Issued at 228 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Mariners on Lake Superior should expect deteriorating conditions through the morning as a cold front sweeps across the lake. Northwesterly winds will become breezy, likely gusting to 20-25 kts, which will build waves to 2 feet across the Apostles and create choppy seas. Winds could be locally stronger right along the coast as the cooler air passes over the relatively warmer waters. The Apostle Islands may have brief Small Craft Advisory conditions this afternoon. These winds and waves should begin to gradually subside later this afternoon and evening as the front exits the region. The big story for boaters is the extended period of calm and favorable weather that follows, beginning Sunday and lasting through the entire upcoming week. A large area of high pressure will settle over the Great Lakes, leading to generally light winds, calm seas, and mostly sunny skies.
