.DISCUSSION... Issued at 316 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025
Clear skies & calm winds have lead to prime radiational cooling conditions overnight, with temperatures falling into the low 40s across central Minnesota & western Wisconsin. Very dry dewpoints from yesterday afternoon have persisted overnight which has prevented any areas of fog developing, but localized fog is still possible in river/stream valleys and near lakes & wetlands. Temperatures will warm into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon with southerly flow developing through the morning. Winds will be fairly light overall, but gusts around 20 mph are likely across west-central Minnesota late this morning through mid afternoon. Deep mixing is expected again this afternoon which will result in RH values dropping below 30% across much of the area this afternoon, but lighter winds will mitigate any potential fire weather concerns except potentially across west- central Minnesota before the winds die down.
Very warm conditions are expected this week as ridging amplifies over the Upper Midwest & Great Lakes region. Ensemble guidance continues to depict temperature anomalies of 15-20 degrees above normal, with the heat peaking late in the week when anomalies of 20-25 degrees above normal look possible. While we look to fall short of record highs on most days, afternoon highs in the mid 80s look likely daily with even some 90s possible across western & south-central Minnesota. Precipitation chances will continue to be negligible with the strong ridging overhead, so we`ll likely have to wait until at least this weekend when the jet amplifies over the US-Canada border & flattens out the ridge. As expected at this range, deterministic models are fairly varied regarding the track & timing of any potential systems this weekend, but ensemble guidance shows at least decent chances for rain at some point this weekend.
