.DISCUSSION... (This afternoon through next Wednesday) Issued at 1045 AM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025

A low pressure system is currently parked across the middle of the area, allowing some scattered showers to continue through this morning. This system will slowly continue its trek to the east through the remainder of the day, with scattered showers likely continuing until it clears the area. So far we have not seen any thunderstorms in the mix, but can`t rule out a few rumbles or two of thunder into the afternoon hours. Conditions will slowly improve overnight, with skies clearing through the day on Friday.

Can`t ask for a better forecast for the upcoming weekend, with dry and sunny conditions across the area. High temperatures will remain near-normal, generally spanning the low to mid 80s. By the beginning of next week, weak upper-level ridging will begin to develop, aiding to keep dry conditions across the Mid-South with high temperatures climbing a few degrees each day. This pattern will likely persist through at least the middle of the week, with some uncertainty in the forecast thereafter. The one forecast note to keep an eye on will be the trajectory of the low pressure system from today as it moves east of the area. While the majority of ensembles do push this system into the Carolinas, there is some question as to how far east it will get before being blocked by a stout ridge over the Atlantic. If this system does not drift too far east, this could bring the possibility of some showers by midweek. Nonetheless, leaning towards the drier solution, but worth mentioning that it is something to watch over the next few forecast cycles.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1234 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025

Scattered SHRA continue to move across the airspace, with predominately MVFR cigs. Expect for cigs to continue to vary through the afternoon, but should begin to see improvements to VFR by the evening as SHRA moves out the area. Could see some patchy fog develop overnight, but given limited confidence have only included for MKL at this time. Northerly winds around 7-9 kts continue, dropping back to < 5 kts after 01Z.

.FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1045 AM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025

No major fire weather concerns through at least the weekend, as recent rains have saturated soils. Dry conditions will return into next week, so some minor fire danger concerns could return to the area.
