Orono ( OR-ə-noh, OR-noh) is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. It is a suburb of Minneapolis located about 16 miles (26 km) to the west on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka. The population was 8,315 at the 2020 census.
The city was named after Orono, Maine by early resident George A. Brackett. Orono is the largest municipality by area on Lake Minnetonka and is largely residential.
