.DISCUSSION...

Today through Monday...

Today will be a nice fall day with temperatures starting out in the 30s and 40s before warming up into the 70s under clear to mostly clear skies. With the recent moisture, localized valley fog is possible early over south-central Montana and northern Wyoming, but any fog that does develop should lift around 9AM.

The forecast for the rest of the week into the weekend is warm (upper 70s and 80s) and dry as upper level ridging builds over the region. The only weather systems to watch during this time are two waves passing mainly north of our region through Canada. While the first looks to remain north enough to be a non-player for our region, the second wave late Thursday into early Friday has trended a bit deeper and farther south over the past 24 hours. Therefore, this could be something to watch should the trend south continue. At this time, the only impacts from this second system look to be a dry cold front passage that brings a period of increased cloud cover and winds to the region, as well as slightly cooler temperatures for Friday.

By early next week, cluster analysis suggests the upper level ridge axis could shift east of our region, allowing winds aloft to back out of the southwest. This would subsequently allow Pacific moisture and energy to be reintroduced to the region, potentially bringing back daily precipitation chances mainly over the mountains and foothills. Arends

.AVIATION...

Localized valley fog is possible this morning for areas that saw precipitation yesterday. Therefore, KLVM, KBIL, and KSHR could see fog this morning, but confidence remains lower on impacts to the runways. Any fog that does develop should dissipate around 15z. Otherwise, skies will remain mostly clear and winds will remain mostly light through the TAF period. Archer/Arends
