.KEY MESSAGES...

- Low chances for a lingering isolated shower or storm today over the southern Edwards Plateau, western Hill Country, and Rio Grande.

- Dry conditions spread across the area by Tuesday and continue through the week.

.SHORT TERM (THROUGH TUESDAY)... Drier air aloft is beginning to spread across the region on the upstream side of an upper trough axis, resulting in calmer weather conditions for most of South Central Texas. Some patchy fog is possible this morning in low-lying drainage areas that received rains from this past weekend. While atmospheric moisture is steadily diminishing this morning with precipitable water values expected to fall below 1.5 inches for most of the region by the day`s end, low level winds and evapotranspiration from the weekend`s rains will keep moisture a little elevated along the Rio Grande, leaving the door open for some lingering isolated showers (20 to 30 percent chances from the early morning and through the day) mainly along and west of Highway 83 to the Rio Grande. Hi-res models keep the activity weak, but low convective temperatures and modest residual instability suggest an isolated rumble of thunder can`t be ruled out before succumbing to more dry air arriving from the northeast. Otherwise, it`ll be a mostly dry day with a mix of sunnier skies east of Highway 281/I-37 and cloudier west. A thermal trough axis extended northeast to southwest across South Central Texas should put a lid on temperatures even with the added sunshine, so highs range from the low 80s over the southern Edwards Plateau to mid to upper 80s along the I-35 corridor and low 90s over the Coastal Plains to Winter Garden region.

The combination of continued weak northeast winds near the surface and in the mid-levels will make for a relatively dry Monday night into Tuesday morning, allowing for overnight lows to drop into the 60s for most of the region with low 60s north of I-10. A few low- lying spots could briefly dip into the upper 50s as dew points drop overnight. Temperatures warm quickly Tuesday under those dry conditions, but a lack of thermal ridging will continue to put a soft lid on temperatures. Afternoon temperatures should be a touch warmer than Monday, with upper 80s over the Hill Country and low to mid 90s elsewhere.

.LONG TERM (TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY)... Quiet and sunny weather is expected to continue through most of the week as an upper-level ridge slides into Texas from northeastern Mexico. Highs show a subtle warming trend through the week but should settle into the mid to upper 90s along the I-35 corridor and Coastal Plains with upper 80s to low 90s across the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill Country. Wednesday morning should be another cool and dry one with widespread values in the low to mid 60s especially north of I-10, but returning moisture in the latter half of the week will bring most outside of the Edwards Plateau and Hill Country back into the upper 70s and low 70s for lows heading into the weekend.

The upper-level ridge keeps rain chances out of the picture for most during the week, though chances for an isolated coastal shower and storm activity in the afternoon and evening grow slightly later in the week and into the weekend with the gradually increasing moisture. Troughing increases over the Rockies this weekend, leading to a return of low rain chances over a broader portion of the area over the weekend into next week.

.AVIATION (06Z MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY)... SHRA and IFR/MVFR CIGs will linger over the Rio Grande Plains into the Edwards Plateau overnight into Monday and will maintain mention at KDRT. Elsewhere, areas of low VFR CIGs FL035-050 slowly erode by Monday night as drier air filters into our area. Due to RA on Sunday, increased soil moisture may result in 1SM BR at KSAT early in the morning from 10Z-14Z. Wind speeds generally less than 10 KTs are expected with NE prevailing at the I-35 sites and E at KDRT.
