Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 140 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Cool mornings Tuesday and Wednesday.

- No rain through Wednesday.

&&

.SHORT TERM (THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT)... An upper level ridge is building over Texas from the west, and there is weak northwesterly flow. At the surface, the front that brought Sunday`s rain has stalled from near Brownsville to the central part of the Mexican state of Coahuila west of Eagle Pass. Behind the front winds are from the northeast to east across South-Central Texas. The front has brought drier air with dewpoint temperatures 5-15 degrees lower than 24 hours ago. This dry air is allowing for a large diurnal temperatures swing which will continue through the short term. Tonight will be mostly clear with light winds leading to low temperatures dropping to near 60 in the Hill Country to near 70 along the Rio Grande. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with temperatures climbing into the 90s over nearly all of the area. Tuesday night will be a near repeat of tonight, and temperatures may be slightly cooler.

&&

.LONG TERM (WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY)... Wednesday we`ll start to see moister air return to the area. Temperatures will begin to warm back up, especially morning lows, but they should plateau by Thursday and then remain steady through the end of the period. The upper ridge will keep most of the CWA dry through Saturday, but there may be sufficient deep layer moist air for isolated showers across the southern part of the area. A surge of moist air up the Rio Grande will bring a slight chance for rain Sunday and Monday afternoons over the area west of I-37/I-10.

&&

.AVIATION (18Z MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY)... VFR conditions are forecast for the local area airports through this cycle. Low scattered clouds are anticipated overnight into Tuesday morning across KSAT and KSSF, however, cigs remains VFR. Light northeast to east winds are forecast for the I-35 corridor sites through the forecast period while a light southeast flow dominates over KDRT.
