.DISCUSSION...
Transient high pressure will move into the region today in the wake of a passing low, resulting a much drier day today compared to yesterday. However, there does appear to be just enough residual moisture and instability in Mono and Mineral counties to support isolated showers or perhaps a strike of lightning or two. Fleeting high pressure will allow shower and thunderstorm coverage to expand across the eastern Sierra on Saturday south of US-50, where odds of 15-30% reside.
Broad and unseasonably strong low pressure will likely emerge in the eastern Pacific over the weekend, increasing confidence in a multi- day period of unsettled weather beginning Sunday. Increasing winds and an uptick in shower and thunderstorm potential will serve as the incipient concerns on Sunday into Monday ahead of the first of two cold frontal passages. The first cold front will likely advance through the region sometime Monday, providing another round of showers and thunderstorms, and a sharp cooldown in its wake. The second cold front appears to move through Tuesday, resulting in further cooling and more showers. Highest Sierra peaks may even see light snowfall with each cold front passage. Timing and impacts from this storm will likely change in coming days so be sure to check back with the latest forecast.
