...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...

.KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 141 PM EDT Fri Sep 12 2025

- Above normal max temps and below normal min temps next few days

- Dry with no chance of rain in the forecast

- D0 drought expanding...rapid onset drought possible in the coming week with no rain

&&

.SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Saturday) Issued at 141 PM EDT Fri Sep 12 2025

Surface high pressure nosing into the region from the northeast will continue through the short term. In tandem with a mid level trough over the eastern seaboard, drier air/northerly flow at multiple levels will not only keep pops and QPF out of the forecast, but also keep drier dewpoints in it. Probably the only story with the short term forecast will be the range of daily temperatures. Max T`s will be running 3-5 deg above normal and overnight Mins will be running 3-5 deg below normal... all stemming from the drier airmass in place.

.LONG TERM... (Sunday morning through next Thursday) Issued at 141 PM EDT Fri Sep 12 2025

.LONG TERM...

Key Messages:

- Dry pattern continues through the middle of next week.

- High temps expected in the upper 80s and lower 90s.

No major changes in the weather pattern with continued dry conditions expected through at least day 7. Upper level troughing slowly drifts eastward becoming centered over coastal Carolina with the surface high pressure ridge remaining fairly stationary along the eastern seaboard. Minimal moisture return expected over the next 7 days so at most we may see a day or two with increased cloud cover. With dewpoints expected in the 50s to lower 60s, and afternoon highs in the 80s to near 90, Min relative humidity values will stay in the 30% to 400% range through the period. With these expected dry conditions drought level will surely rise through the end of next week. Would not be surprised to see some D1 drought levels creep into the state.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 128 PM EDT Fri Sep 12 2025

Surface ridge nosing into the region from the northeast and will be in control of this cycle. Winds will remain out of the east through the period and light. Given the low RH values in the layer, clouds will be on the few side and confined to the daytime.
