.DISCUSSION... Issued at 234 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025
As of 2 PM Saturday afternoon, longwave midlevel ridging remains across the western half of the CONUS. A cutoff low was positioned across southern CA with a plume of Pacific moisture extends across the central and southern Rockies. Aside from a few upper level clouds, no impacts are expected from the southwest low. Otherwise, a weak cold front is currently bisecting the state from southwest to northeast. Little thermal gradient exists along the front with mid to upper 70s northwest of the front and low 80s southeast of the front.
The aforementioned ridge will amplify across the upper midwest tonight into Sunday. The increasing midlevel heights will aid in Sunday afternoon temperatures reaching the mid to perhaps upper 80s. Otherwise, the surface pattern remains largely influenced by surface ridging with southerly winds generally 10-15 mph. The surface/midlevel ridge slide east of the area by Monday, allowing temperatures to return closer to normal with highs in the lower 80s. As the remnants of Tropical Depression 9 comes ashore across the Carolinas, the surface/midlevel ridge is likely to regress westward across the upper midwest. This will deep dry and seasonable temperatures across the region throughout the upcoming work-week. The next potential for rain may arrive next weekend as a frontal zone advances towards central KS.
